Influence of stocking size on area efficiency and performance in pasture fattening of lambs

Lamb fattening is largely carried out in stables and fed concentrated feed components. Concentrate feed price trends may reduce the profitability of lamb meat production. Pasture feed is the cheapest feed. In the foothills and inner Alpine regions of Austria there are sufficient, less intensive pasture areas that would be available for utilization. Satisfactory fattening results could be achieved on such areas with maternal pasture fattening.
