    Manure, stirred or shaken?

Manure always becomes an issue in society during the growing season, when its application leads to unpleasant-smelling, gaseous emissions. For agricultural operations, the problem is not only that these emissions have an unpleasant smell, but are mainly nitrogen losses from the operating cycle.

These losses need to be reduced not only during production but also during storage. As part of research work at the Bio-Institut, the mixing of manure during storage was examined and the influence on the pH value was measured. The level of the pH value provides information about whether ammonia can escape from the manure in gaseous form or remains dissolved in it.
