More than 200 spectators followed this year's LANDWIRT cattle specialist day on February 22nd, 2022. You were there live via computer, smartphone or tablet from the comfort of your own home. The focus was on pasture & animals, pasture & plants and pasture & law. At exactly 7 p.m., LANDWIRT editor Karin Ch. Taferner welcomed the viewers from the German-speaking Alpine region. In the afternoon, the seminar room in the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein castle was converted into a studio. There were three video cameras under the direction of LANDWIRT video editor Christoph Duller.
The optimal grazing strategy
In his keynote speech, Andreas Steinwidder , head of the Organic Institute of the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein, discussed the advantages and disadvantages of portion, paddock or stand pasture. He made it clear that pasture farming can help save feed costs .
Keep pastures productive
In his short lecture, grassland expert Walter Starz from the HBLFA -Raumberg-Gumpenstein discussed the necessary care measures on pastures. Reseeding, fertilization and weed management are particularly important.
Grazing safely
In the third part of the online seminar, Reinhard Gastecker from the Lower Austria Chamber of Agriculture discussed the legal basis of pasture farming. In addition to the new requirements for organic farms , he also touched on water law, road traffic regulations and animal owner liability.
