This year's goat conference deals with the topic of male goat fawns from milk production. On the one hand, the suitability for fattening is lower, but on the other hand, the goat's milk is very valuable.
First, options for reducing male fawns are examined from different perspectives. The possibility of extended lactation and its influence on performance characteristics is discussed, as is the practical relevance of continuous milking on Austrian dairy goat farms. Sperm sexing can not only have a positive influence on breeding, the possibility of reducing the number of male goat fawns must also be taken into account.
The second part of the conference shows different ideas and options for marketing goat meat. Different strategies are presented, from the premium product “Zucker-Kitz” to regional direct marketing and online platforms to halal marketing. A lecture on project management and the right social media presence round off the diverse program.
