Field day 2024 in Lambach

At the Organic Institute's agricultural field day in Lambach/Stadl-Paura on June 12th, interested visitors found out about the current experiments and projects. In numerous personal conversations with the practitioners, experiences from the experiments were passed on directly.

Among the visitors to the organic arable farming field day were many mixed farms with cattle farming, for which the results from a clover grass project were specifically presented. Specifically, the performance of grass clover as a crop rotation element for direct food production was highlighted. As part of the two-year trial, fodder was able to be harvested to produce 12,000 liters of milk per hectare.

As part of the field day, new cultures be observed that are being cultivated at the site under organic farming conditions as part of the new BioOptiFood project. , squash and sugar melons are cultivated on ridges that are covered with a mulching film, a classic heaped ridge, and in a third variant, an attempt is made to keep the weeds in check with undersown crimson clover. Another experiment is dedicated to growing runner beans with polenta corn in a mixed culture. The recently planted trial with sweet potatoes did not yet indicate that yields of 30,000-60,000 kg/ha could be achieved in just a few months.

Since the flower strips adjacent to the test areas were also in full bloom, the special implementation of these as long-term two-cut meadows could also be discussed.

The conclusion of the organic farming field day took place on the new test areas in the south of Stadl-Paura, where the focus was on potatoes and legumes The cultivation of lentils at the site has been optimized over several years, enabling yields of over 1,000 kg/ha. High-yielding varieties of dry beans yields of 2,000-3,000 kg/ha.
