Elimination of invasive neophytes

One of the tasks of the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein is to maintain an ecological balance in the environment. For this reason, our hard-working interns were on duty again this summer, fighting neophytes in the community of Irdning-Donnersbachtal. To do this, they walked along the Black and Vulture Trails and enthusiastically removed the glandular balsam ( Impatiens glandulifera ).

Neophytes are plants that not originally native and were either intentionally imported or unintentionally introduced as stowaways in global freight traffic. , some plant species, such as the glandular balsam (Impatiens glandulifera ) or the Japanese knotweed (Fallopia japonica), spread massively and conquered large areas within a short period of time, so that native species were completely displaced in places and natural habitats were destroyed.

Elimination is carried out by removing the plants and their roots from the soil. An important aspect here is that the removal occurs completely and before the seed capsules develop, otherwise the seeds for the next jewelweed season would already have been sown.

In addition to the removal, a mapping of the area was also created and created.

Many passers-by were very interested in the interns' work and praised them for their great effort and commitment to nature conservation.
