It is important for research to keep up with the times. We therefore decided at the Institute for Livestock Research to convert the milking system from a double 4-tandem milking parlor to an automatic milking system. At the beginning of the year, employees of our institute visited some milking robot companies to get impressions of the brands available on the market.

After a public, EU-wide tender, careful consideration and weighing up all the advantages and disadvantages, we chose the most suitable option for us. We have been milking with the automatic milking system since August 19, 2021, and the changeover worked better than expected. With the new milking technology we have the best conditions for future dairy cattle experiments. This means we can continue to provide farmers with the latest test results and practical recommendations for action in the future.
