Animal husbandry, animal welfare and herd management

Animal welfare can sometimes be described by the average length of stay. It is also directly related to animal health, longevity and profitability.
In some cases, the lying times of dairy cows are routinely recorded using sensors. This technology has so far not been widely used. On the other hand, the prerequisites for optimizing lying behavior with a comparison are also missing.

As part of the project, the lying times of cows in different husbandry systems are to be recorded in order to subsequently show individual farm potential with regard to lying behavior. As part of advice from the cooperation partner, the companies receive targeted measures depending on the potential to optimize the lying behavior of their herd. The aim of the project is to increase animal welfare, animal health and longevity of dairy cows and thus the profitability of dairy farms.

After a routine has been established in the process and data management, it should be used as a consulting tool. A large number of companies should be given the opportunity to optimize the lying behavior of their herd.

    • Recording individual holding times depending on the housing system and management
    • Describe the individual company's potential for optimizing lying behavior
    • Evaluating the different posture systems with regard to lying behavior
    • Describe key factors that influence lying behavior
    • Depending on the potential for optimizing lying behavior, measures are developed together with project management
    • Creation and operation of a database about lay times to support consulting services
