The herbal substances have both antibacterial and styptic effects. The effect of clay minerals is, on the one hand, to bind fluid and, on the other hand, to fix harmful metabolic products. Together, these substances should be able to support the physiological intestinal flora of the piglets and thus prevent the hemolytic E. coli bacteria from the large intestine from colonizing the small intestine through competitive inhibition. By reversing the osmotic conditions, the E. coli bacteria in the small intestine lead to increased secretion of fluid, which ultimately leads to symptoms of diarrhea.
Further positive effects can be expected through the stimulation of digestive processes (UNGERHOFER, 2004; KYRIAKIS et al. 1998).
