Management organic pig

In the wake of the publication of the two new EU organic regulations 834/2007 and 889/2008, the interpretation of controversial questions in animal treatment is necessary. A team of experts addresses these questions.

The treatment of animals in organic farming is regulated in EU Regulations 834/2007 and 889/2008. Questions about the interpretation of individual passages often arise. EU law must be brought into line with national regulations and points that are not or inadequately regulated must be interpreted. A group of experts consisting of veterinarians, lawyers and consultants is developing a guide that is discussed and approved by the responsible people in the ministries, at BIO Austria and in the control bodies.

Priority topics are:

  • Legal basis for the use of medicines in organic farming
  • homeopathy
  • Phytotherapy
  • Use of additional feed and home remedies
  • Use of anti-parasitic agents
  • Cleaning and disinfection
