    forest sheep

In recent years, enormous efforts have been made to preserve endangered livestock breeds. Forest sheep are ideal for grassland maintenance, extensive and small-scale organic farming in the "disadvantaged" areas of low mountain regions with a harsh climate.

Forest sheep farming is an alternative for small-scale farms that cannot be managed with large amounts of machinery and are usually run on a part-time basis. In addition to the characteristics that should be highlighted, such as undemandingness and best forage utilization, aseasonality and high fertility, the very good quality of the meat should be mentioned. The Suffolk sheep is used as a crossing partner to improve carcass quality. It is a sheep with good meat growth and slaughter yield.
The aim of this project is to examine the meat quality of cross-bred Waldschaf x Suffolk lambs and purebred Waldschaf lambs on three different fattening rations and to obtain data for advice on endangered breeds.
