    Alpine turf for high altitudes

At altitudes above the tree line, successful and sustainable revegetation after structural measures is currently only possible if site-appropriate alpine seed mixtures are used. This also requires the use of high-quality greening techniques.

Due to the extreme weather conditions at high altitudes, the vegetation grows very slowly and needs at least 2 growth periods until sufficient erosion protection is ensured.

Smaller interventions may be necessary again and again until autumn. The possibility of rapid, site-appropriate and long-lasting greening with immediate, 100% erosion protection would be the top priority. However, this can only be achieved by using parts of the vegetation that contain grasses and herbs that are adapted to the climate. Such material is either not available from natural locations or is only available in small quantities.

A strategic partnership has been working on this problem for several years. The solution is to produce alpine turf for different locations. They consist of alpine grasses that can survive under extreme alpine conditions up to 2,500 m above sea level. Suitable ecotypes were put together to form mixtures for acidic and basic locations and their suitability for producing ready-made Alpine turf was tested. Large-scale production has been running for two years.

The properties and positive effects of alpine turf have been scientifically monitored in several experiments. The positive properties in terms of immediate and long-term erosion protection through the location-appropriate vegetation were impressively demonstrated.
