Based on the data obtained, changes in soils, vegetation and species composition can be determined and possible statements can be made about the influence of climate change. An assessment of the development trends with regard to management and their subsequent effects can be derived.
From a natural perspective, the study area is characterized by the occurrence of different geological conditions (silicate to limestone). The permanent observation areas include extensively to intensively used pastures and meadows as well as abandoned alpine pastures on different types of soil and at different elevations.
Goals and activities:
- Survey of phytodiversity and soil conditions on selected alpine pastures in the Gesäuse National Park
- Comparison with existing data to determine vegetation and soil development and changes in species composition
- Nature conservation assessment of alpine ecosystems and comparison of differently used alpine locations; Highlighting natural features
- Evaluation of the Alpine pasture management plan for the Gesäuse National Park
