4th Science Day in Raumberg-Gumpenstein
On Wednesday, January 11, 2023, the 4th Science Day for students of the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein took place. As part of the Science Day, students from our institution visited the research areas and gained direct, practical insights into current agricultural research and experimentation.
A cinematic retrospective by Mag. Alexandra Mattarollo
The students of class 2 U - Laura Rießner and Thomas Rauchenwald - give a brief review of the Science Day on January 11, 2023:
As part of this year's Science Day, we had the opportunity to attend various lectures on agriculture. The lectures took place either at the HBLFA Raumberg or at the Gumpenstein research site. We began with a presentation by Dr. Thomas Guggenberger on the topic of "Agriculture Atlas." He introduced us to the atlas he helped create, and we learned a great deal about agricultural statistics and their significance. Immediately afterward, Dr. Andreas Steinwidder presented on "Developments in Organic Farming and a Comparison of the Organic and Conventional Markets." We were able to actively participate in his self-designed survey, and the responses were then discussed together. After a short break, we visited Dr. Elfriede Ofner-Schröck and her assistant in Gumpenstein. There, we learned about "Cattle Behavior and its Application to Barn Construction." We were able to assess the animal welfare situation of the cows in the barn. After lunch, we visited Mr. Josef Kaufmann, where we learned a lot about the methodology of gas chromatography and how these devices can be used to measure, for example, the acid content of silage.
We really enjoyed the day and learned a lot of new things.
We would like to thank all those involved for their many contributions and ideas during the preparation and follow-up, for the interesting questions and the discipline shown in implementing the project.
3rd Science Day in Raumberg-Gumpenstein
To better integrate teaching and research and give our students direct insights into current research work , we developed our Science Days. We take into account the knowledge level of our students and present all our research areas to them in a practical way within the framework of their 3- or 5-year school career.
The researchers prepare specialized stations , summarize the topics concisely, and actively involve the students in the respective subject matter. This includes, for example, tasting, measuring, collecting data, documenting, evaluating, reflecting, and discussing the findings.
The prepared documents are compiled be downloaded free of charge below They offer interested individuals and students a brief, up-to-date overview of the respective topic and can be used, for example, in the classroom.
