There are numerous reasons why a united Europe is important for the citizens of the member states. These include a stable currency, internal security, consumer protection, the commitment to healthy food and a clean environment, but above all, the peace that the "European Community" has guaranteed for 70 years.
However, developments such as Brexit, increasing Euroscepticism, and political disillusionment pose major challenges for the EU, possibly even a turning point. Many things that Europe can be proud of are taken for granted by some citizens, but are often no longer perceived as European achievements.
Since the emergence of SARS-CoV-2, the EU has repeatedly been criticized for its inaction. However, even though member states have more leeway for emergency measures, the EU – largely unnoticed by the public – has made a significant contribution to crisis management.
The board of trustees of the European Days, under the leadership of ÖkR President Franz Titschenbacher , and the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein have therefore set themselves the goal of using the European Days “Future Europe - Evolution instead of Revolution” to reawaken awareness of the topic of Europe, especially among our young people.
Due to COVID-19, the kick-off event in 2020 was held as a webinar. Numerous prominent figures from the church, politics, business, and education were recruited to present the many advantages of the European Union to an interested audience through engaging expert lectures.
