Applied Microbiology

The subject of applied microbiology is taught in the 3rd year of UR (Environmental and Resource Management) for 3 hours per week.

In varied and interactive lessons, students expand their knowledge of microorganisms. After learning the basics regarding the importance, classification, growth, and metabolic processes of microorganisms, the students delve deeper into the topic.

In the field of microorganisms and genetic engineering, students study genetic engineering methods such as cloning using plasmids, polymerase chain reaction, and CRISPR-Cas9, to name a few examples. The application of microorganisms includes wastewater treatment, soil remediation, and composting. In the area of hygiene, students learn essential basics of HACCP concepts and the critical evaluation of CCPs. Personal and operational hygiene is another key focus.
