Our new waste management officers

As part of its environmental education program, the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein training to become a certified waste management officer in cooperation with TÜV AUSTRIA AKADEMIE and it4eduacation. In the 2020/21 school year, 36 students from the 4U, 2 ALG, and 3 ALG classes took advantage of this opportunity. They participated in the training to become certified waste management officers and, after successfully passing the exams, received the Waste Management Officer Certificate (ABA).

They were accompanied by Professors Ingrid Prieger-Edlinger and Lena Sonnleitner as well as our graduate Florian Peter. We congratulate them on this outstanding additional qualification and thank everyone who made it possible.

The comprehensive training program is divided into three modules. In the first module – the Green Future Certificate – students acquire the necessary environmental knowledge in the areas of sustainability, resource and energy management. The second module – Green Future Certificate Plus – focuses on environmental management, waste management, material flow analysis, and controlling.

The third module, the training to become a waste management officer, is the most comprehensive module. It covers the following topics:

  • Environmental management systems (ISO 14001 & EMAS),
  • waste management in Austria,
  • the environmental legal framework,
  • the role, duties and tasks of a waste management officer, as well as
  • The obligations of waste owners are addressed.
  • Of course, the basic framework for the initial development of a waste management concept within the company must not be missing.

Each module required an exam. Upon successful completion of all modules, the TÜV Austria Academy awarded the certificate for waste management officer. The TÜV Academy in Brunn am Gebirge was pleased to send the certificates to all 36 participants by mail after they successfully passed their exams.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the exam had to be conducted online under the strict supervision of TÜV Academy staff. For this reason, we are unfortunately unable to publish a group photo of this year's participants.
