After settling into the house, we started with a safety briefing: How do I behave in the forest, what does personal protective equipment include, and how does it protect me? – These questions were addressed. After a delicious meal in the FAST kitchen, part of the Carinthian Culinary Region, we learned
- know different rope connections
- How to trees using crampons , which is useful for felling problem trees . The instructors from the forestry training center showed us all the steps in detail, which we were then allowed to put into practice. It was helpful that we already had a lot of knowledge and practical experience from our training in Raumberg and could apply it there. The next few days mainly consisted of
- from tree felling using various cutting techniques as well as
- the transport of these using a winch and cable car, including tractor and crane operation.
We also had the opportunity to spend an afternoon in the Ossiach Tauern region, experiencing forest education firsthand. We spent our free time at the still-fresh Lake Ossiach. The training session on the new KMS cable car, led by Konrad , was particularly informative. Equipped with the latest technology, it can currently only be operated at the Ossiach location!
It was a very fun and eventful week for all of us, always filled with enjoyment. We would like to thank Mr. Josef Meierl once again for the entire organization and support, and also Ms. Elke Lindenhofer. (Magdalena Ellmauer)
