During the summer holidays of 2024, the existing dining hall at the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein, which had a very limited capacity of only 170 seats, was expanded to 360 seats . As part of the renovation and expansion work, the previous dining hall, dating from the 1960s, was also renovated, acoustically optimized, and refurnished.
A basement beneath the new dining hall now serves as storage for furniture and equipment, and a terrace accessible from the Grimming Hall offers an unparalleled view over the Enns Valley. The processes in the school kitchen and serving area have optimized , allowing all students to eat their meals simultaneously in a calm and pleasant atmosphere. Furthermore, this newly created capacity enables our kitchen to cater for conference participants and external course attendees in the future.
You are welcome to view this functional and well-designed dining area at our open house on Saturday, November 9, 2024, starting at 8:30 a.m. We look forward to your visit.
Healthy, regional, organic - high degree of self-sufficiency
With the support of an external culinary consultant and experts in nutrition and health, the kitchen processes were reorganized and the menu was developed to promote a healthy and balanced diet. The use of organically produced and regionally sourced food, depending on seasonal availability, is a top priority in Raumberg-Gumpenstein. As an agricultural teaching and research farm, we are able to supply all our meat needs (beef, pork, lamb), as well as dairy and cheese products, and a variety of potatoes and crops from our own production – primarily organic.
The students of HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein are integrated into the cycle from production to processing and finally consumption of high-quality food.
Innovative, sustainable overall concept in food management
Every day, over 400 students and our staff provided with high-quality meals. There is a choice of two set menus pre-ordered " Eaty, one of the most modern registration systems . Eaty is an electronic registration and deregistration system with automated billing and interfaces to other established tools in the school sector ( Edu.Pay, BKVWIN ).
Modern techniques and tools, as well as high-quality food products, are the prerequisite for a perfect menu in a cozy and relaxing atmosphere – Raumberg-Gumpenstein has achieved this goal with the new construction and adaptation of the dining room.
Project progress - Dining hall extension
In mid-September 2023, an initial planning meeting was held at the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein for the "Dining Hall Expansion and Renovation" project. During this phase, the planning parameters were developed, and specialist planners were subsequently involved. The planned implementation period extended from April 2024 to December 2024 or January 2025. However, it soon became clear that completion by December 2024 would only allow the school and boarding school operations to continue at considerable expense or with enormous effort. For this reason, a binding completion date of September 8, 2024, was set.
A further challenge arose during the planning phase, as adaptations were also necessary in the kitchen and serving areas. The following section illustrates the construction process up to completion on a timeline.
Preliminary draft / Draft / Submission
- September 2024 to the end of January 2024
- Decision to use a solid construction with precast reinforced concrete elements
- Exterior design with wooden facade, based on the existing structure
Detailed planning and specifications
- December 2023 to March 1, 2024
- Contract negotiations BIG / ROSA / companies from 04.03.2024
Construction begins on the extension – new dining hall
- March 2024: Start with site setup, demolition work and infrastructure measures (relocating water pipes, fiber optic cables, etc.)
- Completion of the reinforced concrete work is expected by the end of June 2024
- July 1, 2024 and simultaneous start of the expansion work in the extension
- Commissioning date: September 9, 2024
- Completion date: October 2024 / No accidents!
We would like to thank everyone involved for this achievement – creating such a structure in such a short time is only possible with top-notch companies and rigorous construction supervision. Many thanks for that.
