On February 25, 2025, we, the 4u, together with Ms. Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Prieger-Edlinger visited the waste management association (AWV) in Liezen.
The responsible environmental educator and waste management consultant, Ms. Sonja Haider, guided us through the grounds and explained the association's tasks. First, she showed us the scales that everyone has to drive onto to dispose of waste, and then we visited the recycling center. There, all types of waste are separated and collected (cardboard, paper, electrical appliances, old paints, and much more). Next, we came to a huge pile of residual waste, where we learned how it is separated and processed. We also saw how organic material (grass clippings, organic waste, etc.) is processed; it is shredded and then composted.
Finally, there was a short quiz and everyone received a small gift. We learned a lot and discovered what happens to the different waste streams.
