Sheep and goats

Extensive grazing with small ruminants in alpine regions is of high ecological, social, and economic importance. However, this requires well-trained herders. In cooperation with the Austrian Centre for Bear, Wolf, and Lynx and the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU), the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein, under the direction of Maria Naynar, offers the first certified training program for sheep and goat herders on alpine pastures in Austria .

In 6 modules , comprising approximately 100 hours, participants will acquire sound theoretical and practical knowledge about the alpine grazing and herding of small ruminants . The course will take place at the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein and will also include various excursions.

The course is suitable for beginners and advanced learners and can also be booked in individual modules. Module 1 starts on February 21st and 22nd, 2025 (program subject to change).
