In Piber, grassland trials (permanent grassland, fertilization and management intensities, crop rotation trials, official variety trials, and basic propagation of forage crop seeds) have been conducted as part of research activities since 1961.
The location in western Styria near Köflach at an altitude of 450 m above sea level, with an average annual precipitation of approximately 880 mm and a mean annual temperature of 9.9°C, allows for long-term studies on permanent grassland and the comparison of the results obtained with those from other research stations.
