The Ecological Breeding Value (ÖZW) combines all pedigree and performance data of AI sires from the areas of constitution (longevity, calving ease and vitality, conformation and udder) and performance (ecological milk value, persistence and milk production increase, meat value) into a single value, weighted differently. Particular attention is paid to fitness traits. Breeding according to the ÖZW results in significantly greater progress in fitness (fertility, udder health, calving ease, longevity, etc.). Conversely, animals with high initial milk production, early-maturing lines, and lines with very high individual animal production and low persistence score lower.

In the following sections you will find the current ÖZW bull selection lists for the Fleckvieh and Brown Swiss breeds. Depending on the reliability level, the ÖZW bull compilation contains two lists for each breed:
- ÖZW-NK: This list contains progeny-tested bulls with medium and high reliability.
- ÖZW-GJV: For genomic young sires, the breeding values are estimated practically without daughter performance data and taking genomic information into account. Therefore, the breeding values have a relatively low reliability. We recommend particularly rigorous selection in this case.
Furthermore, you will also find an ÖZW list for both Fleckvieh and Brown Swiss cattle, which pass on polledness. Please note the varying reliability of the breeding values in these lists. We recommend a rigorous selection process here as well.

Note regarding bulls with genetic defects: Genomic studies have led to significant progress in the detection of genetic defects in recent years. To avoid or minimize the occurrence of offspring with genetic defects, risky matings must be consistently avoided. We recommend not using bulls with known genetic defects.
