Climate change - What is coming for our agriculture - 01. Podcast

What challenges lie ahead for Austrian agriculture?

The global climate is changing dramatically. Farms, in particular, are under immense strain due to increasingly extreme weather events. This is primarily caused by rising greenhouse gas emissions, which are driving up the global average temperature. This leads, on the one hand, to more frequent heat waves and droughts, extreme storms and heavy rainfall, and on the other hand, to a gradual transformation of entire ecosystems.

We asked Dr. Andreas Schaumberger what exactly is in store for Austrian agriculture.

Andreas Schaumberger works at the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein researching climate impacts and has also contributed to important climate models. As head of the grassland department, he also conducts long-term research projects, utilizing many new technologies.
