What can fertilization technology achieve?

 

 

Climate change is increasing the duration of heat waves, droughts, and heavy rainfall events. This reduces the window of opportunity for optimal fertilizer application with conventional methods and increases the risk of nutrient leaching. We asked Alfred Pöllinger-Zierler and Andreas Zentner how to address these challenges and reduce emissions, nutrient losses, and the CO2 footprint on farms through fertilizer management

Alfred Pöllinger-Zierler heads the Emissions from Livestock Farming department at the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein. His research focuses on topics such as indoor and outdoor mechanization, as well as manure application. Andreas Zentner runs his own manure research unit and is currently investigating manure additives and their effects on emissions.
