Agriculture and forestry produce eleven times more energy than they need

Energy-efficient farms are aware of their energy consumption and actively implement measures to remain competitive despite rising energy costs. Local farmers are directly affected by climate change and are therefore a key factor in the upcoming changes.

 

Agriculture and forestry are the only manufacturing sector to have succeeded in reducing emissions by around 15 percent compared to 1990 through comprehensive reduction measures . Furthermore, our sector is able to store large quantities of carbon in soils and biomass . Sustainable circular economy practices contribute to curbing the further accumulation of harmful fossil CO2 in the atmosphere.

The use of innovative energy technologies strengthens competitiveness and creates modern agricultural and forestry operations for future generations. Styrian farmers manage their farms energy-efficiently, as independently as possible from fossil fuels, thereby preserving a livable environment.

Through his long-standing contacts with agricultural and forestry practices, Dr. Christian Metschina observes the path to energy-efficient operations and is familiar with the challenges and opportunities. In conversation with Dr. Andreas Steinwidder he discusses his experiences with renewable energy.
