The Austrian forest in the context of climate change - an outlook
Nearly half of Austria's land area is covered by forest. Besides providing raw materials, forests offer other important ecological and social services. For example, forests can make a significant contribution to climate protection through CO2 sequestration and the use of wood as a building material.
Higher temperatures, unfavorable rainfall patterns, severe weather events, and the resulting increased pest pressure are taking their toll on forests. This podcast explores the implications of this, the interrelationships that need to be considered, and how forest management can respond to these challenges.
The head of the Federal Research Centre for Forests, DI Dr. Peter Mayer, also attempts to answer the question of what the forest of the future in Austria could look like in a podcast conversation with Priv.-Doz. Dr. Andreas Steinwidder .
