Testing of hose ventilation systems for climate optimization in livestock barns

Modern animal husbandry systems must meet the individual needs of the animals and enable economical and ergonomic working conditions. These systems are inextricably linked to year-round, reliable, and optimized ventilation of the barns.

Risks such as heat stress, with its associated losses in vitality, behavior, and performance, must be mitigated. Calves and young cattle, in particular, have specific needs that must be considered: their limited thermoregulation and the provision of microclimates pose significant challenges to proper climate control. For these reasons, tube ventilation systems have thus far received little support in consulting and practical application. This project aims to investigate adaptations and appropriate adjustments of these systems to the specific conditions of the barn. If the results are positive, their use will be extended to the young cattle sector in alpine regions.
