How are we supposed to prepare for the Christmas season without visiting Christmas markets, drinking punch and mulled wine, waffles in hand, while pushing our way through the crowds? Or the hectic rush of buying last-minute Christmas presents, baking countless kinds of cookies, and in between all that, organizing the Christmas dinner? Wait, is this supposed to be a peaceful time?
Actually, no, and as sociable as a get-together at a stall or a Christmas party is—and we will truly miss it this year—Christmas will be different. When was the last time you truly experienced the holiday, and especially the time leading up to it, with all your senses, without worrying about when and where you're invited to the festivities? Usually, it's associated with a lot of stress—self-inflicted, of course. So what's really important during this time, and above all, how can you use your newfound free time to get into the Advent spirit and, consequently, be ready for the holidays? Perhaps a winter walk without your phone, just with family or friends; personal, homemade gifts would also be an idea. Or how long has it been since you sent a Christmas card—handwritten, mind you.

Therefore, what could be more beautiful than thinking of someone while making a gift and already enjoying it yourself? Because what truly matters—and this isn't just true for Christmas—is the gesture, and it doesn't have to be a big or expensive gift. What counts is thinking of someone and the joy of giving. However Christmas looks for each individual this year, it will be special, as always. This day only comes once a year, and it's not just children who eagerly anticipate the moment when the candles on the tree are lit in the evening. It's also an experience for adults, if only to watch others marvel at the sea of lights or later unwrap their own gifts and enjoy them.

This time should be consciously enjoyed, reflecting on what is important in life. Because that includes family and friends who are there for each other and with whom you can experience many wonderful things – like Christmas itself.
With that in mind, I wish you a peaceful and reflective Advent season, pleasant hours with a cup of tea, the warming light of a candle, and above all, a Merry Christmas!
