Sustainability research to secure the nutritional basis of our ruminants

Sustainability research to secure the nutritional basis of our ruminants

With 1.34 million hectares, grassland is the largest agricultural crop in Austria.

With its ecologically important diversity of usage types and plant communities, grassland is the essential basis for supplying our ruminants with basic feed and thus the economic basis for the production of milk and meat. Grassland also ensures important ecosystem services, such as clean drinking water, biodiversity and a cultural landscape with the highest recreational value.

DI Dr. Bernhard Krautzer, head of the Institute for Plant Production and Cultural Landscape at the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein, refers to this current topic in the article , published on mediaplanet .
