Sustainability research to secure the food supply for our ruminants

Grassland, at 1.34 million hectares, is the largest agricultural crop in Austria.

With its ecologically vital diversity of land use types and plant communities, grassland is the essential basis for supplying our ruminants with forage and thus the economic foundation for milk and meat production. Grassland also ensures important ecosystem services, such as clean drinking water, biodiversity, and a cultural landscape with exceptional recreational value.

DI Dr. Bernhard Krautzer, head of the Institute for Plant Production and Cultural Landscape at the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein, refers to this current topic in the article published under mediaplanet
