The Austrian Hunting Conference represents three decades of discussion and exchange on current hunting topics, with the direct involvement of research and practice in responsibility for our nature.

In addition to a prominent list of honored guests, Director Dr. Johann Gasteiner was able to welcome more than 500 interested guests from home and abroad.

The overarching theme of this conference, "Wildlife and Habitat – A Look into the Future ," is more relevant than ever. The cultural landscape is changing rapidly, and not for the better – influenced by megatrends such as climate change , digitalization , and especially by societal shifts . We are facing rapidly changing leisure activities and a completely new societal understanding of nature. At the same time, new wildlife diseases and the return of large predators present us with challenges that can only be overcome collectively.

Hunting is not an isolated issue. It is part of a complex network of diverse interest groups, including agriculture, forestry, nature and environmental protection, as well as society, media, and politics. To act responsibly in this dynamic world, hunters must closely monitor developments in science, technology, and environmental policy and continuously expand their knowledge and, consequently, their arguments in favor of hunting.

The return of large predators such as wolves and golden jackals poses a particular challenge to domestic wildlife management, while at the same time, both familiar and emerging wildlife diseases necessitate close cooperation between hunters, veterinarians, authorities, and researchers. Simultaneously, public perceptions of hunting are changing dramatically and in many directions – often veering into the realm of uninformed opinions – a development that can only be addressed through knowledge- and fact-based communication. The Austrian Hunters' Conference thus serves as a forum for discussing hunting-related issues and seeking solutions.

The great professional and organizational success of the 30th Austrian Hunting Conference is both an incentive and a mandate for the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein to continue holding this internationally recognized specialist conference on hunting.
