Following the official opening, the first thematic block began with expert presentations on economic and political framework conditions. Federal Minister Norbert Totschnig outlined key challenges and future prospects for grassland and livestock farming in his presentation. He anticipates crucial decisions this year – both nationally and, in particular, at the European level. Josef Moosbrugger, President of the Austrian Chamber of Agriculture, addressed important economic and political framework conditions for a competitive grassland and dairy industry. Another key topic was "Animal Husbandry Labeling and the Future of Combined Housing," presented by Georg Lehner, Managing Director of Berglandmilch. This session focused on consumer behavior, new regulations, and their impact on farms. Stefanie Zottl's presentation highlighted current consumer trends and their influence on agriculture and communication. The first block concluded with a high-caliber panel discussion exploring the diverse challenges facing the sector, as well as the opportunities in a changing market.
Sustainability and cooperation as future concepts
The second thematic block addressed strategies for more environmentally friendly livestock farming. Particular emphasis was placed on emission reduction, adaptation to climate change, and innovative husbandry systems to promote animal health and welfare. The third block presented farm cooperation models that increase efficiency in agriculture. It demonstrated how the shared use of labor or machinery, as well as various forms of farm collaboration, can offer economic advantages and reduce the workload for farmers.
Research as the key to innovation
The event concluded with an excursion to the research facilities of the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein, where current research findings were presented. The focus was on topics such as digitalization, climate change adaptation, and resource-efficient management. A relaxed gathering with an opportunity for personal exchange rounded off the event.
