The first day began with an opening address and covered the new GfE recommendations for dairy cowswere Developments in the dairy market and the challenges of sustainability reporting highlighted. Other topics included the mineral and vitamin requirements of dairy cattle and animal health management. The day concluded with a discussion on the ruminal degradability of crude protein in forage.
The second day bluetongue disease was overview of the disease and control measures presented. A further presentation highlighted practical experiences in dealing with the disease and its impact on farms. The day concluded with a presentation on forage quality, showcasing the results of a project analyzing grass and corn silage.
For the first time at this event, the best grass and corn silages from Austria in 2024 were awarded prizes, a particular highlight. This award recognizes the outstanding quality of silages and underscores the importance of high-quality animal feed in Austrian agriculture.
The 52nd Livestock Farming Conference was a resounding success, offering participants valuable insights into current research findings and practical topics in livestock farming. The lively exchange and stimulating discussions demonstrated the high level of interest in the subjects covered. We extend our sincere thanks to all the speakers for their insightful presentations and to all participants for their active engagement. We are already looking forward to the next conference and anticipate further enriching discussions and new ideas.
