The morning session ranged from an overview of the department's pig farming projects and "hot topics" on building law, spatial planning, and emissions assessment (Eduard Zentner, Engineer) to the presentation of the "IBeSt: Innovations for Existing Pigsties" project with a live video link to the research barn (Birgit Heidinger, Dr.) and the evaluation of odor emission factors for pig farming (Michael Kropsch, BMA). Fortified by a traditional meal (roast pork) at the school, the farmers listened in the afternoon to Irene Mösenbacher-Molterer's presentation on the results of dust measurements in various barns and on common sources of error found in barn climate analyses.
A visit to the pig research facility rounded off the overall program.
Josef Macher from the Styrian Pig Advisory Service (SBS) thanked everyone on behalf of all participants and referred to the excellent cooperation between the SBS and the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein and the enormous importance of practice-oriented research in the pig sector for the entire industry.
