ÖKL seminar on legumes at the HBLFA

Recently, the seminar "Edible Legumes in Practice – Cultivation, Technology and Value Creation" took place at the Lambach/Stadl-Paura location of the Bio-Institute. Numerous interested visitors filled the seminar room and were able to learn about the cultivation of edible legumes, their benefits for soil fertility and climate-resilient crop rotations, as well as their processing into high-quality food products.

The main presentations were given by Daniel Lehner and focused on the production of grain legumes such as lentils, chickpeas, and various beans , which are becoming increasingly important as protein sources in the human diet. Further key factors for the successful cultivation of various legumes were addressed and discussed by Manuel Böhm . Practitioners Maria Kaip and Gregor Mittermayr mayr the Traunviertel and Mühlviertel regions shared their experiences with cultivating and processing these crops on their own farms. The successful seminar day concluded with a visit to the Waldenberger family farm in the municipality of Pennewang, where all the specialized machinery and equipment used for cleaning and processing edible legumes were demonstrated and discussed.
