ÖKL Seminar: Modern Herd Management - Efficiency, Sustainability and Animal Welfare through Technology

ÖKL Seminar: Modern Herd Management - Efficiency, Sustainability and Animal Welfare through Technology

Digital technologies promise efficiency, relief and progress - but how much of that fits into the family farm?

Optimized herd management places high demands on supporting daily work organization as well as on monitoring, recording, and analyzing relevant measurement data. In addition, the ability to process this data in a way that is compatible with the company's IT system is essential to ensure smooth workflows and animal health.

The seminar will present the latest developments in herd and grassland management, both theoretically and practically. Herd management systems, sensors and their control, as well as digital tools for efficiency and animal welfare will be covered.

You will learn about the latest results from applied research. The program will be rounded off with an exciting guided tour of the Innovation Farm site in Raumberg-Gumpenstein with Bernhard Krautzer and Georg Terler.

Participation fee: €60.00 for agricultural businesses with a valid business registration number

Description:

Reinhard Huber: Pasture GPS – A tool for grazing livestock farming

Finding animals on large and complex alpine pastures can be a real challenge. GPS systems help to reliably track animal locations and detect abnormalities early on. This presentation explains simply and practically how the technology works, what possibilities it offers, and where its current limitations lie.

Andreas Schaumberger and Samuel Muttenthaler: Innovations in grassland farming

From automatic dock control to application possibilities of satellite data in grassland farming, the focus is on the new opportunities for stock and vegetation monitoring.

Julia Schoiswohl: Individual Animal Health

Animal-specific sensor systems enable the detection of impending illnesses. Using the lying time of cows as an example, the presentation will illustrate how these sensors work and how they can be successfully integrated into daily farm operations.

Magdalena Waldauer: Using innovative technologies effectively

Sensors, robots, and smart systems are finding their way into dairy barns – with the aim of simplifying workflows and enabling informed decisions. But which technologies offer genuine added value, and where do new challenges arise?
This article provides a practical overview of how innovative systems can support daily life in the barn, what operational requirements they necessitate, and where their limitations lie.

Bernhard Krautzer and Georg Terler: The Innovation Farm at the Raumberg-Gumpenstein site

The Innovation Farm combines modern agriculture with cutting-edge research. Practical solutions for animal husbandry, grassland management, and digitalization are showcased. The guided tour focuses on trials, new systems, and sustainable methods.
