In four departments of the Institute for Plant Production and Cultural Landscape Research, with a total of over 50 employees, application-oriented research is conducted on a wide range of topics related to environmental ecology, vegetationand biodiversity management , and grassland .
The focus of this research on the needs of agricultural practice has a long tradition at the institute and the entire HBLFA , but at the same time it is also subject to constant change in order to be able to address current challenges in agriculture.
Andreas Schaumberger: “I have been working in Gumpenstein since 1989 and have been able to observe for several decades that the long-term success and acceptance of the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein in agricultural practice consists of finding answers to current questions with sound scientific work and preparing them in a practical way.
During this time, I had the opportunity to experience the work from different perspectives. Initially in administration and IT, my continuing education led me into the field of research. Thanks to my studies, I was finally able to expand my long-standing professional connection to grassland research to include the perspective of a technician.
Our institute is exceptionally well-equipped with experimental plots and experienced staff, enabling us to respond to new developments and adapt our scientific work accordingly. Climate change and its consequences, the potential of digitalization, site-appropriate management, the promotion of biodiversity, and the preservation of farming practices in disadvantaged regions are examples of issues we must address intensively today and in the future.“
