At HBLFA is dedicated Biodiversity & Renaturation research group to precisely this topic: the protection and restoration of biological diversity in agriculturally used cultural landscapes.
Our goal is to create a sustainable balance between productive agriculture and ecological responsibility . Through scientifically sound and practical approaches, we make an important contribution to the preservation of biodiversity – together with farmers, nature conservation organizations and professional associations.
You can find more information in our special podcast for Biodiversity Day - feel free to listen.
Our main focus areas:
- Genebank grassland:
Collection, conservation and propagation of genetic resources from a wide variety of grassland habitats. These form the basis for species-rich ÖPUL DIVRS mixtures, which are used to promote biodiversity in practice. -
Farm
Animals and coordinate conservation programs and genetic monitoring of rare farm animal breeds. Furthermore, we represent Austria's interests in the field of animal genetic resources at the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations).
Biodiversity as a shared responsibility
Biodiversity is not just a scientific topic – it concerns us all. On International Day for Biological Diversity, we want to raise awareness of this and show how research, practice, and society can work together to preserve our natural resources.
