The visit focused on current research and experimental results from the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein. Following an excursion to an organic dairy farm in the region, participants gained insights into the institute's grassland and pasture research. Presentations included results on tiered grassland management, supplemental fertilization of permanent pastures, grazing of clover grass with dairy cows, and the productivity of forage plants under different climatic conditions.
Other key topics of the conference included pasture-based fattening of dairy crossbreeds, the efficiency of concentrate feed use in different genotypes, and current research on the life cycle assessment of organic dairy farms. A guided tour of the barn at the research site rounded off the first day of the event.
The second day focused on practical topics such as the implementation of mandatory organic grazing, innovative approaches to raising weaned animals, and the "Feed no Food" concept. Furthermore, it was demonstrated how satellite data and artificial intelligence can be used to support yield estimations on meadows.
The conference once again highlighted the importance of international exchange between consulting and research. Guests from Germany had the opportunity to learn about current scientific findings and discuss the challenges and future prospects of organic dairy farming with researchers from the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein. At the same time, new contacts were established and existing collaborations were further strengthened.
