Four hectares of wild bee pasture for the species conservation project “BeeWild”

Since the beginning of the year, a successful collaboration has been underway between the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein and the "BeeWild" initiative. The focus of this initiative is on creating an ideal food source and safe nesting sites for bees and other insects. A seed mixture containing 50 native wildflowers, genetically adapted to our natural habitats, forms the basis for the large-scale establishment of high-quality biodiversity areas specifically for our wild pollinators.

The partnership between "BeeWild" and the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein guarantees the unique quality of the plants for local wildlife. During a press conference at a wild bee pasture in Weiz, Ariane Pfleger, boarddirektorat Raiffeisen-Landesbank (RLB) Styria, together with representatives of the species conservation project "BeeWild" and Bernhard Krautzer, head of the Institute for Plant Production and Cultural Landscape at the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein, emphasized the importance of biodiversity.

Against this backdrop, RLB Steiermark has designated four hectares of land for species conservation as a species protection sponsor. The land is located on a fruit farm and is the largest area so far in the BeeWild project. This commitment protects meadows, creating habitats for tens of thousands of insects, birds, small game, and valuable plants.

By the way: Anyone can become a BeeWild species conservation sponsor: One euro protects one square meter of biodiversity area. Registering at www.beewild.com activates the desired area. Farmers then manage these areas using the described seed mixture, which consists exclusively of flowering plants and contains no grasses. The sustainability of these measures is monitored by the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein and supported by scientific projects.
