Drones boost grassland research

Using a new drone, the HBLFA in future create high-resolution images of grassland stands in the visible and near-infrared range.
These observations will allow for the derivation of important yield and quality parameters, as well as the vitality of the grassland stands.

In addition to basic growth monitoring, the drone will also be used in climate impact research, where biophysical growth processes under extreme dry conditions can be recorded with a thermal imaging camera. Besides a better understanding of growth processes, the newly acquired drone will primarily be used to further develop non-invasive yield and quality assessment of permanent grassland.
