The construction or renovation of pig barns ties up capital and labor for many years. Extensive planning is necessary to ensure that such projects are implemented to the satisfaction of both people and animals. The Institute for Organic Agriculture and Biodiversity of Farm Animals regularly offers "barn days" at its branch in Thalheim/Wels.
On these dates, the institute's experts open the barn doors and give tours of the pigsties. The aim is to answer questions, highlight new developments, and engage in conversation with the farmers. The diverse composition of the respective groups (organic farmers, those interested in converting to organic farming, companies, etc.) guarantees not only interesting discussions but, above all, a wide range of experiences and impressions that would be difficult to obtain in a one-on-one meeting.
The tours begin at 9:00 a.m. with a brief introduction of the participants. The topics for the morning are then determined based on the group's interests. After the tour, there will be an opportunity to discuss details using plans or barn sketches that participants have brought along.
The barn days are also used by consumers, students, and teachers, and are open to all interested parties. For better planning, registration by calling 07242 47011 is requested.
