The first part of the crash course for shepherds took place on sheep and goat pastures on April 19th and 20th . At the Medau farm, the focus during these two days was primarily on the animals: normal behavior , proper handling of the animals, and animal-related indicators in theory and practice .

One focus was also on the

  • Identifying, preventing, and treating typical sheep and goat diseases. In the afternoon, participants were able to...
  • be there for the sheep shearing and
  • Perform initial practical exercises in hoof care

The course generated considerable interest among the 15 participants. The diverse prior experience of the participants fostered active exchange among them.
A second part will follow at the beginning of May. The course is organized by the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein in cooperation with the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, the Student Union for Agricultural Sciences, and the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna.
