Through personal experiences and observations, children are given the opportunity to deepen their knowledge. Experiencing the needs of animals and the requirements for species-appropriate husbandry directly with all their senses strengthens their understanding of sustainable and animal-friendly agriculture and their respect for animals as fellow creatures.
This year, as in previous years, a school class, the 3C class of BRG Körösi Graz, visited the Bio-Institute of the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein as part of a field trip, accompanied by a certified animal welfare officer. Priv.-Doz. Dr. Andreas Steinwidder and Dr. Elfriede Ofner-Schröck provided the interested students with insights into agricultural animal husbandry and the needs of farm animals regarding their living environment. On June 16, 2021, the Children's Animal Welfare Conference took place, where the students enthusiastically presented their project results and impressions from their field trips and were able to discuss issues of animal husbandry and animal welfare.
