Breed Diversity, Expertise and Passion: The Breeding Days 2026 in Raumberg-Gumpenstein

On February 19th and 20th, 2026, the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein became the meeting place for numerous sheep and goat farmers from all over Austria. During the Breeding Days, organized by the ÖBSZ together with the NTÖ, the focus was on knowledge, practical experience, and intensive exchange. For two days, everything revolved around breeding work and the impressive diversity of breeds in the country.

The first day of the event was dedicated entirely to theory. Expert presentations covered topics such as breeding value estimation , modern analytical methods, current breeding regulations , and conservation breeding . Digital applications that increasingly support breeding work were also presented. Participants gained in-depth insights into new developments and innovative tools for practical application.

The second day was dedicated to practical application: at four stations, participants could mountain sheep breeds, meat sheep breeds, goat breeds , and endangered breeds . The opportunity to practice the breeding evaluation of individual animals directly on site made theory tangible and fostered professional exchange. Over 80 animals from more than 15 different breeds, provided by various farms, offered an impressive foundation for this.

The 2026 Breeding Days were not only a valuable professional development event, but also a vibrant meeting place for the Austrian breeding community. They impressively demonstrated the level of competence, commitment, and enthusiasm inherent in domestic sheep and goat breeding.
