The Higher Federal Teaching and Research Institute Raumberg-Gumpenstein invites you to the 31st Austrian Hunting Conference. The event will take place on March 5th and 6th, 2026 in the Puttererseehalle in Aigen im Ennstal and will bring together leading experts from hunting practice, science, administration and nature conservation.
The focus is on current challenges and opportunities for hunting in the European context – from the impact of the EU Restoration Regulation and biodiversity programs to the control of animal diseases. Practical presentations and panel discussions will shed light on current topics such as wildlife diseases, sustainable hunting of species listed in the Habitats Directive, wildlife crime, and the role of hunting in nature conservation policy.
Highlights of the program include contributions from:
- Klaus Hackländer (BOKU Vienna) – “Hunting systems in the EU: Diversity as a challenge or an opportunity?”
- Thomas Ellmauer (Federal Environment Agency) – “Contribution of hunting to EU nature conservation policy”
- Ulrich Herzog (BMASGPK) – “The role of hunting in the fight against animal diseases”
- Flurin Filli (Swiss National Park) – “Insights from 30 years of chamois research”
The conference will be rounded off by a panel discussion on the topic of “Wildlife versus Administration”, the popular “Speaker’s Corner” and an evening program with a game buffet and music.
The participation fee for the in-person event is €95, which includes lectures, materials, transfers, and an evening buffet. For the first time this year, the cost of lunch will be included in the conference fee and billed directly by the organizer to the restaurants. Only drinks will need to be paid for on-site during lunch.
