ZLG basic hoof care course starting in January 2025

The LFI Styria , under the direction of Robert Pesenhofer, is once again offering a basic hoof care course at the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein. The course starts on January 28, 2025.

In addition to theoretical content, this course places particular emphasis on the practical learning of proper, functional hoof trimming and documentation, as well as the safe handling of hoof trimming tools and the various hoof trimming stands. Practical instruction takes place in small groups under the guidance of certified hoof trimming instructors.

The course content includes: anatomy and biomechanics of the hooves, five steps of functional hoof care, tool knowledge, documentation, feeding and husbandry, hygiene, animal protection and welfare, disease control, occupational safety, ergonomics and legal principles.

After successful completion of the basic course, the advanced course for inter-farm hoof care be completed. (Dates for this will be announced later!)

Course duration: 136 units

Target group: Farmers who wish to perform functional hoof care themselves on their farm
or who wish to carry out this activity as self-employed
hoof trimmers on an inter-farm basis, interested persons

Dates: Module 1: Mon., 27.01.2025 - Fri., 31.01.2025
Module 2: Mon., 24.02.2025 - Fri., 28.02.2025
Module 3: Tue., 25.03.2025 - Thu., 28.03.2025
Final Exams: Wed., 09.04.2024 and Thu., 10.04.2024
