Close collaboration between science and practice is a key success factor for the further development of organic farming. This is precisely the focus of the "Speeding Up Innovation" event series, initiated by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Regions and Water Management together with the Austrian Chamber of Agriculture. The aim is to rapidly and effectively translate research findings into agricultural practice.
On March 13, 2025, organic farming was the focus of an event at the University of Agricultural and Environmental Education. The diverse program included engaging presentations and three interactive workshops on the topics of organic primary production, organic value chains, and organic control and certification. During the workshop "Innovations in Organic Primary Production," Daniel Lehner, MSc, from the Organic Institute of the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein, presented new findings on "Organic Food Crops as an Alternative to Animal Feed Cultivation." Additionally, Christian Fritz, MA (HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein), and Ruth Bartel-Kratochvil, PhD (Bio Austria), presented the project "Climate-Efficient Dairy Farming," which outlines sustainable strategies for future-proof organic milk production.
Particular emphasis was placed on interdisciplinary exchange between science and practice. In lively discussion rounds, innovative ideas were developed and valuable input from the audience was gathered.
