Networking for organic farming in the classroom

Under the motto " Deepening organic education – shaping and implementing it together, " this year's organic networking seminar, "Organic Farming in the Classroom," brought together teachers, consultants, and scientists from the field of organic agriculture. The event aimed to further strengthen collaboration between schools, consultants, and researchers, to exchange experiences, and to learn from one another. The seminar took place from January 27–28, 2026, at the Schloss Puchberg Education Center as part of the BIO AUSTRIA Farmers' Days 2026.

Under the direction of Dr. Elfriede Ofner-Schröck and Director Johann Gaisberger , diverse topics were addressed, highlighting the current challenges and innovations in organic farming.

Engaging keynote speeches highlighted new perspectives for contemporary organic farming education and showcased the use of innovative teaching materials. Best-practice examples provided valuable insights into successful teaching concepts and offered practical suggestions for lesson planning. Furthermore, strategies for inspiring young people to embrace organic farming in a sustainable way were presented. A World Café format facilitated intensive exchange, discussion, and networking. In the subsequent future workshop, participants developed concrete ideas and practical approaches for enhanced collaboration in organic education. The informal exchange during the evening gathering fostered personal connections and the sharing of experiences. The following day, participants had the opportunity to attend the comprehensive professional program of the Bio Austria Farmers' Days. A heartfelt thank you goes to our colleagues at Bio Austria for their excellent collaboration in organizing the seminar.

Overall, the organic networking seminar once again provided a valuable platform for deepening the understanding of organic farming and gaining new inspiration for teaching. In addition, webinars are regularly offered to support teachers in their organic farming lessons. These are planned and professionally coordinated by the Organic Farming Institute of the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein.
